The 2013 Members’ workshop took place in Brussels and focused on accountability in advocacy work. The 24 participants discussed the challenges their organisations face with regard to their legitimacy of speaking for others, the effectiveness of its impact and the added value of collectively defining the parameters for effective accountability on advocacy. Three key areas emerged as particularly relevant: Progressing from a defensive to a pro-active use of accountability, constituent participation driving the impact of advocacy work, and clear and collective assessment driving effectiveness. 54% of the attendees evaluated the overall workshop as “very useful”, 33% as “extremely useful”.
