As well as working closely with members, we strive to work across a global CSO accountability network on a variety of projects and initiatives.

Accountability in action:

Our Projects & Partnerships

We can only be effective and successful if we collaborate, exchange, and learn from each other. This is why we build and strengthen relationships with initiatives, projects and organisations that also work towards changing accountability practices in CSOs.

In 2023, Accountable Now and Accountability Lab announced a new strategic partnership that will enable will enable both organisations to contribute more sustainably to the global accountability ecosystem, deepening their advocacy, research, and stakeholder engagement.

Accountable Now is a proud member of Accountability Lab's global translocal network - alongside Accountability Labs operating in twelve countries worldwide.

Accountability Lab makes governance work for people by supporting new ideas for accountability, transparency, and open government.

The Dynamic Accountability Community of Practice is a joint initiative by CIVICUS, Restless Development, Keystone Accountability and the Global Standard Partnership. It is a space where a wide range of civil society practitioners can come together to share good practices, discover useful resources, and learn from one another on the topic of Dynamic Accountability.

The Global Standard Partnership is a global network of nine established accountability initiatives, representing more than 1,500 CSOs from across the world. Together the partners co-created the Global Standard for CSO Accountability, a common accountability reference framework for CSOs that places continuous stakeholder dialogue at the centre of their work in order to rebuild trust in CSOs and create a more enabling civil society environment.

Since its launch in 2017 during International Civil Society Week, the Global Standard continues to grow and gain recognition as a model and tool for strengthening civil society, and promoting strong, inclusive partnerships and locally led action.

Accountable Now is a proud founding partner of the Global Standard and held the Secretariat from 2017 - 2023.

Past Projects

The Resilient Roots initiative, coordinated by CIVICUS and in collaboration with Accountable Now, Keystone Accountability and Instituto de Comunicación y Desarrollo, aimed to test whether organisations who are more accountable and responsive to their roots – namely, their primary constituencies – are more resilient against external threats.

From 2017 – 2020, the initiative worked with 14 national partner civil society organisations (CSOs) of varying size, focus, location and approach, to help them design and implement year-long pilot projects aiming to increase accountability to the people and communities impacted by their work.

Recognising the enormous, but largely untapped, potential of youth civil society in the moment of the largest youth generation in history – the Development Alternative was created to shift power and turn traditional development on its head through leveraging the potential and agency of young people and communities to accelerate development outcomes. The Development Alternative is a consortium of organisations, led by Restless Development, including Accountable Now, DOT Lebanon, Integrity Action, INTRAC, War Child, Y Care International.

From 2019 – 2021, the consortium worked closely with young people and their communities, and youth-led and focused organisations to co-design approaches to development that ensure these groups define, own and lead solutions to the problems they face.

Other Partnerships

Social Value International (SVI) is a global network focused on social impact and social value, working with its members to embed core principles for social value measurement and analysis, to refine and share practice, and to build a powerful movement of like-minded people to influence policy. Accountable Now began an institutional partnership with SVI in 2018 in order to exchange learnings and explore synergies around how we measure, report, and communicate about impact.

Bond is the UK network for organisations working in international development. They unite the international development and humanitarian sector to drive global change by connecting people in the sector, influencing governments and policy-makers at national and international levels and strengthen organisations to be more impactful and sustainable through training, resources and support services.

The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) is a donor driven initiative to provide more transparency on aid flows. It is a reporting protocol that allows for greater comparability of a huge quantity of data. As such, it complements Accountable Now’s intention to provide more information on the quality of CSO work. Accountable Now is a IATI member as of January 2014. This membership commits Accountable Now to promote the IATI standard and allows it to participate in its further development to better suit the needs of CSOs.
