In 2017 IPPF introduced a three-stage performance review process for all members of its Governing Council. The review process will include self-assessment, peer review, and review by the global and regional President, and will be a pre-requisite in order to be considered for re-election. Linking re-election to performance should strengthen accountability and the overall strength and performance of the Council. The process should also offer the an opportunity to assess any gaps which may need to be addressed when recruiting new Council members.
This practice could be further strengthened by publishing a broad (anonymised) summary of key findings from the performance reviews, including overarching strengths and weaknesses among Council members.
